Members of ISACA who are executives and senior managers in the IT field have developed an exciting program to reach students with the message of rewarding careers in the IS audit and control profession. One full-time faculty member per functional discipline, such as MIS or accounting, at universities offering one or more courses in IT governance, audit accounting information systems or security is invited to become an Academic Advocate to ISACA. The main areas of the program are:
- ISACA complimentary membership for the Academic Advocate. Membership in ISACA provides additional benefits including reduced conference registration fees and an ISACA Bookstore discount.
- Model Curriculum for IS audit provides support for curriculum development and evolution and delves into research on current university offerings in the field.
- COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology), a breakthrough IT governance framework developed by ISACA and its related IT Governance Institute. Material is provided to help utilize this international guideline and its concepts in the classroom.
- IT Governance Using COBIT® and Val IT™ is a set of educational materials that professors and teachers can use to explain and present COBIT in their curricula and courses of information systems management, information security management, information systems auditing and/or accounting information systems. This educational package was constructed using the advice and counsel of a global group of academics and practitioners. The purpose was to create a more focused approach for teaching and presenting COBIT in the classroom. IT Governance Using COBIT and Val IT is available to all professors who pledge to share their own COBIT teaching materials.
- Certification—CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) CISM (Certified Information Security Manager) and the new Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) certification. More than 60,000 professionals have achieved the prestigious CISA sponsored by ISACA. Materials will be provided to raise student awareness of these designations and the future career value of pursuing these certifications.
- Information Systems Control Journal is a technical publication published six times per year provided to members of ISACA. Academic Advocates should encourage their university library to subscribe to this professional journal. ISACA will be glad to review appropriate articles submitted by Academic Advocates for potential publication in the Journal.
- Academic Research—Academic Advocates and their PhD students can submit surveys for evaluation and possible posting to the ISACA web site.
